Northern Ireland Museums Council
The Northern Ireland Museums Council was established in 1993. It is both a non-departmental public body and a charity managed by a Board of Directors. The Council works closely with its sponsoring department, Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure, in assisting museums in Northern Ireland to continually improve their standards.
NMC is also charged by Government to promote a regional framework of museum provision in Northern Ireland. It is the main channel for central government support to regional and local museums. Additionally it is the principal advocate for the sector and provides information and independent advice to the Northern Ireland Assembly, local district council and range of bodies in the public and private sectors.
