Brief Histories (of Almost Anything)

Edited by: Chris Brazier

This remarkable book claims to pack 50 books into one!

You will need to make your own mind up whether it works, but as an example: they refer to a "bunch of fives" where they list 5 things ranging from 5 martyrs to 5 pointless wars.

With subjects as diverse as Islamic Civilisation, Architecture, Money, American Rebels and Contraception there is something for everyone.

I liked Brief Histories because it entertains as well as informs. It can pique your interest in a subject and allows you to conduct your own research if you so wish.

One problem I identified was that the book is quite hard to use as a reference work. There are masses of bits of information but I couldn't get to grips with the indexing.

As ever, don't take my word for it. Get along and order yourself a copy and find out for yourself. I have no doubt that you will enjoy the experience but the information overload factor needs to be taken into account.
